Hey y’all, I hope you’re doing well. In today’s post, I’m gonna talk about the books with strong female characters everyone should read. I think almost every book blogger knows about the books mentioned below. So, this post is not really for the people in the bookish community who already know about these books. It is more for people looking for books with strong female characters. So, let’s get started.
💐 The Female of the Species by Mindy McGinnis
This YA book studies “rape culture through alternating perspectives” and it is pretty important. Even though I haven’t read it, I’ve had it on my TBR for quite a long time! Most of the people love this book, (the subject matter is quite triggering) I would recommend this book to everyone!
💐The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo
This is a story of a fifteen-year-old girl who questions her mother’s religion, her relationship with the church, and tries to discover her sexuality. It’s a bunch of poems that tell a story and I really loved it, even though I don’t read the verse, like, at all. I would recommend this book to everyone because our MC is super awesome and complex and strong. It’s powerful and complex and beautiful.
💐Love from A to Z by S. K. Ali
Love from A to Z is a love story of two teenagers, and let me tell y’all, it isn’t just a simple love story. It has so much more- including two strong Muslim main characters who come across hate and speak up against it! I really loved Zayneb, because she is unapologetic and aggressive, and I really think everyone should read this book because it’s so amazing and powerful.
💐There’s Something About Sweetie by Sandhya Menon
Okay, so it’s another love story of two Indian-American teenagers, and the female character, Sweetie, has been a victim of body-shaming and she is really strong. I really think everyone who is looking for a cute contemporary read with a strong female MC should give it a try.
💐The Downstairs Girl by Stacey Lee
This amazing historical fiction is about a badass teenage girl who works as a maid during the days and as a journalist who challenges certain ideas about race and gender. What else do you need? I haven’t really read this book but I am looking forward to reading it.
💐The Nowhere Girls by Amy Reed
This book is about three misfits who come together to avenge the rape of a classmate and the misogynist culture of their school. I really think this book is important for everyone to read, as it talks about consent and gives a powerful message.
💐Red, White & Royal Blue
This is the love story of the First Son of the US and the Prince of Wales, but I would say that this book is pretty powerful and funny. It has so many strong and smart and powerful women, like the President of the US, her team, Alex’s sister and best friend, and Henry’s sister and mother. If you’re looking for something funny and important and gay but want strong female characters, just grab a copy!
💐Becoming by Michelle Obama
I don’t think I need to describe this book at all. Everyone knows Michelle Obama, and who and what she is. It’s her own story–story of a strong, intelligent and a kind woman–and I think everyone should read it.
So, that’s all for now, guys! I have another list of books with strong female characters that I will post soon (I hope). Until then, share your thoughts about these books!
