The Guilty Reader Book Tag

Hi everyone, I saw this tag on A Little Haze Book Blog (do check out this blog! It’s amazing) and loved it. I was not tagged by anyone, but I really wanted to do it. I would love to find out if I’m guilty or not lmao. So, let’s get started, shall we?

1. Have you ever re-gifted a book you’ve been gifted?

Jim Carrey Reaction GIF - Find & Share on GIPHY

Not at all. I would never re-gift books that I’ve been gifted. And that’s because I keep everyone’s presents. Also, I always tell people to not send me gifts, so I don’t get any books as presents. I’m the one who gifts books and my friends probably re-gift them lmao.

2. Have you ever said you’ve read a book when you haven’t?

Actually, I have done that. I wasn’t much of a reader back in middle and high school, and we had to read some stories and novels for our English exams (including The Canterville Ghost, The Hound of Baskervilles and The Invisible Man) and I lied about reading them. I did read them eventually though. More than twice. For finals, of course. I enjoyed The Hound of Baskervilles. It was pretty baller, I think.

3. Have you ever borrowed a book and not returned it?

No, I haven’t.

I know that people love their books. I usually only borrow from the library and I always return them. I even return the books on time whenever I borrow from some acquaintances/friends. But people don’t return my books! They always disappear with them and I mope for years about them.

4. Have you ever read a series out of order?

Probably not. I don’t really read series though. But I WANT to read one out of order. I know you’re wondering why someone would do that on purpose. I want to read this series but I’m not interested in its second book but maybe they’re connected??? Ugh!!!!

5. Have you ever spoiled a book for someone?

Probably. I don’t do that kinda thing on purpose. I know it’s not fun. But maybe while reviewing a book? I am not aware, though. I do try to make my reviews spoiler-free, but I don’t think I always succeed.

6. Have you ever dog-eared a book?

YES. I do that all the time. I doodle in my books. I highlight in my books. I dog-ear them. I make flowers and cartoons on the pages. I draw emoticons in them. I make them MY own. I give them personality. And if you do that, it’s alright. You’re not making your books ugly. You’re making them your own.

7. Have you ever told someone you don’t own the books when you do?

Haha. I do that all the time. I lie because I don’t want people kidnapping my books and never returning them to me.

8. Have you ever skipped a chapter or a section of the book?

I usually read every word of the book. I only do that when I don’t like the book. Or maybe when I reread a book and I don’t want to read the not-so-interesting parts. I think almost everyone does it?

9. Have you ever bad-mouthed a book you actually liked?

Nah, I don’t do that. I never stop gushing about the books I like. But I totally get why someone would do it.

10. Have you ever told someone you haven’t read a book when you have?

No, not really. I don’t think I would ever do that.

So, that’s about it. I think I am moderately guilty, and I’m happy about it. I had expected the results to be so much worse lol.

So, I wanna tag these lovely human beings:

  1. Yes! Another dog-earer! I love to write in books and a lot of my favorite paperbacks have smiley faces or exclamation points all over the margins. Makes it so much easier to find your favorite parts that way!

    1. It’s the same with my books! I love to write in my books. I’m too old fashioned (or maybe lazy) so I don’t get post-its for them. And yeah, it does make it so much easier to find the favorite parts.

        1. Yes, mine too! I really love it when I find a second-hand annotated book. I love used books only because of this history that I will never be able to unravel. It makes me feel nostalgic for some reason.

          1. I totally get that. I read so much on ebooks anymore but any time I go to a thrift store I go straight to the books and part of me wonders how many owners they’ve seen before. I think it is a strange form of nostalgia. It’s very comforting.

  2. Thanks for tagging me!! Can’t wait to answer these questions lol and I totally understand about people borrowing your books and never returning them! I’m so stingy about who I allow to borrow my books!

    1. Can’t wait to read your answers! Lol, me too! I only let my closest friends borrow my books now (and that doesn’t happen often). I hope you have fun answering these! 😄

  3. Loved this tage! I think everyone (most of us) lied about reading books in school 😀 Why do they have to assign us boring books?! lol
And OMG! I HATE lending books to people, they never ever return them and then I need to constantly nag them about it. Like c’mon, it’s been 2 days already, more than enought time to finish it! 😀

    1. I’m glad you loved it, Alex 😄. Lol, you’re right. They always assign us the most boring books to read, but I think the way they teach them makes them so much worse lmao.

I too hate lending books to people. Some books mean so much to me and I never get them back. 😏

          1. I hate busy days too. I am so exhausted. It’s 7:30 and I have so much homework to do. Being in 12th sucks. WILL YOU STOP BEING SO CUTE!?!?! I feel like hugging your eyeballs out. 😵😜🤪 it’s out already. I am doing every week personal blogging where I will write stuff like this. Now you have to do more tags so that I don’t look crazy, I know I am but I don’t need to show it to the world😜💓🙄🥴😵

  7. I’m guilty of the last one- my history teacher assigns reeealllly boring books and there’s really no point in reading them- he doesn’t quiz on them- so I usually just skip it xD. I loved this tag… I should do it sometime. 💛
