MY PLANS FOR 2020

So, 2020 is right around the corner, and I’m excited. However, I don’t like the idea of growing old, and the change of the year reminds us all that it’s happening, and it’s inevitable. Anyway, have you decided what you want to do in the year 2020? What are your plans for this year? Mine are right here. And without further ado, let’s talk about them.

Bookish

1. READING A LOT OF BOOKS: I guess this is every booklover’s new year’s resolution. I’m sure everybody has decided and is gonna read/ try to read a certain number of books. I always set a goal to read 5 books a year, and that’s my goal for 2020 too! Of course, I end up reading a lot more than five books, but that’s what my goal is going to be in 2020.

2. READING FANTASY BOOKS: If you haven’t noticed, most of the books I read are contemporaries. I read thrillers, historical fiction, mystery, etc occasionally, but I don’t read a lot of fantasy. I tend to stay away from this genre because I can’t usually accept that world. However, lately, I’ve started feeling a bit bored with contemporary and I’m not interested in reading big mysteries, and I’m thinking of giving fantasy a chance. Moreover, I started reading The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater today, and boy am I loving it. I even tried reading The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller in April of this year, and I was actually enjoying it before I put it aside. As some of you may know, I enjoyed Twilight a lot. So, I’m giving fantasy a chance, and I’m gonna read fantasy books in 2020.

3. READING IN FRENCH: So, I’ve been trying to learn the French language for some time, and I suck at learning languages, so I haven’t succeeded at it yet lmao. I want to pursue my master’s in it, and that’s why it’s important for me to take it a bit more seriously. So, while we’re at it, I might as well make plans to read at least one full-length novel in French. I’ve actually decided to read Le Petit Prince, but I might try Harry Potter or Nos Γ‰toiles Contraires (the French version of The Fault in Our Stars) in French too. I follow a few French book blogs and it helps me learn some random words here and there.

Non- Bookish

1. WATCHING MORE BOOK-TO-MOVIE ADAPTATIONS: I love watching movies (duh!) and I’m planning to watch more adaptations because they’re fun. I love talking about adaptations and comparing them with books. Books explain a lot of things and have bonus content, so you know the reason in detail when something goes down in a movie adaptation, which is super cool and makes you feel superior because you understand the characters and situations better than your friends watching the movie who don’t read books.

2. LEARNING TO PLAY GUITAR: In the year 2017, I decided to learn to play guitar my brother had gifted me long ago! In the year 2018, I decided that I’d start from scratch because I’d forgotten how to play the chords I’d learned in 2017. As of today, my guitar has been left untouched in 2019 and has gathered dust because I didn’t give him company 😬. It’s a miracle that I remember where I’d stashed it last time, and also that it exists. 2020 is the year y’all.

3. MAKING MY BLOG BETTER: I’ve been blogging for a while, but I started loving my blog in the last week of August. It was kind of like the renaissance for my blog. I was just doing it perfunctorily before that, and I wasn’t even sure what I wanted and why and how. In August, however, I knew I wanted to take this hobby of mine seriously, and I did it, and I was rewarded. I’m so thankful that I have followers and amazing friends who are so supportive of my blog and are always there to encourage me. I really want to continue blogging in 2020 and write amazing posts and improve my content for myself and for y’all. I might not be able to post every day, but I want to continue it and make my blog better.

4. BEING MORE ACTIVE IN THE BOOK COMMUNITY: I am never active on Goodreads, and I’ve only recently started using Twitter. I am not motivated to use Instagram and post there at all. It takes a lot of time, and I give way too much of my time to my blog and reading books and other hobbies. So, I have decided to be a little more active on WordPress and communicate with my fellow book bloggers and other bloggers, which I suck at right now. I’ll try to read y’all’s posts a lot more and I’ll try to find some amazing new blogs in the new year.

So guys, what have you planned to finish before 2020 arrives? What are your bookish and non-bookish plans for 2020? Let’s talk about them in the comments!

  1. These are some good plans! I’m yet to start thinking about my 2020 goals. I had a lot of goals for 2019 and I feel like I’ve achieved a lot of them as well , but everything seems overshadowed by a tragedy that happened so I’m not sure I’ll write a wrap up for 2019 .. maybe a book wrap up.. πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

    1. Thank you so much! πŸ’“ I’m really sorry, hun, for the tragedy that happened. I hope you’re doing okay?? I’m really glad to know that you achieved quite a few of your 2019 goals. I achieved some of them too–not many but I hope to in the new year– and I hope you achieve so many of them in 2020 too!! πŸ’“πŸ’“

      1. Thank you for asking Nikita .. I’m trying to cope. It’s hard and time is my only friend. I lost my father this year and I have a lot of unanswered questions for him. Some of my friends say I’m overcompensating for my grief with my goals. Maybe it’s that.. but one day at a time. Everything I do lately, I feel like I’m doing it for him, in his memory, to make him proud 😊

        1. Prachi, I’m so, so, so sorry for your loss! I can’t even imagine how hard it must be for you. I’m really glad to know that you’re taking it one day at a time. Time will hopefully make it easier to cope. Wherever he is, I’m sure he is proud of you, and I’m sure he will continue to be proud of you. Just take care of yourself. πŸ’“πŸ’“

  2. Such great plans! I hope you enjoy getting more into fantasy – The Raven Boys is one of my favorite books, and I’m glad to hear that you’re enjoying it so far! And reading books in another language sounds like such a wonderful challenge. Good luck with all of these, and I hope your 2020 reading year is great! πŸ˜€

  3. Reading in French!! What a great goal ❀️. My goals for 2020…well, to be honest, I’m not sure. I guess finally finish the novel I’ve been writing and to keep at the blogging – maybe extend it a few more days but I’m not sure yet ❀️❀️❀️

  4. Those are some good plans. Lately I myself have been spending less and less time on Instagram and Twitter. I just rediscovered WordPress. I look forward to reading about your Journey towards your goals for 2020.

    1. Thanks, Tiffany! Yeah?!! I too haven’t felt motivated to spend time on both of these apps lately. I hope you’re enjoying WordPress. Thank you so much!!

  5. What terrific 2020 goals. I know what you mean about getting bored with one genre because it happens to me and so I’ll switch to another to give myself a break. It seems to happen the most with mystery/thrillers. I like them, but too many twists can become expected so switching genres helps keep things fresh.

    1. Thank you! It’s started happening to me recently. I used to read a graphic novel or listen to an audiobook before when I got bored but that’s not working anymore, so I think I’ve done the right thing by switching to fantasy and I’m enjoying it.

  6. Those are some great goals. In regards to reading Fantasy, I’d highly recommend you read Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings trilogy and the Hobbit. Not because I think you’ll be as enthralled as I am by them but because they are really foundational to the genre itself.
And have you thought about trying out Urban Fantasy? That is still relatively modern but with the fantasy twist. That way you don’t have to leave contemporary out altogether.
Best of luck in all you end up doing.

    1. Thank you so much! 😊 I’m really looking forward to reading the Lord of the Rings trilogy and the Hobbit. And yeah, I’m gonna try reading some urban fantasy first, because it will probably help me get into this genre? Thank you!! β˜ΊπŸ˜„

  7. Have you come across Justin Sandercoe’s guitar lessons on youtube? He’s great and has a complete beginners course, and has managed to keep me enthusiastic for a couple of years now – another decade or so and I expect I’ll actaully be able to play the thing… πŸ˜‰

    1. Not yet!! I’ll have to check his channel out. I watched a few videos of Andy Guitar in the beginning and now I’ve stopped altogether. Thank you for recommending his channel. I’m glad it’s managed to keep you enthusiastic. I always lose interest after some time, so I’m looking for some inspiration. Good luck with the guitar learning, btw! You’ll be able to play it soon!! πŸ˜‚

  8. One of my plans for next year is also to make my blog better. I want to get better graphics and also have been thinking about going self-hosted, but we’ll see. Good luck with your goals!

    1. I want to get better graphics too! Your blog is already wonderful, but I hope you’re able to achieve all the blog related (and non-blog related) goals! Thank you so much. Good luck with your goals too! πŸ˜„

  9. Great plan, and such a great post. I agree that reading in a foreign language is super helpful, I also want to improve my French so I’m reading The Chamber of Secrets now. I found it to be easy even though my French is not great but it’s confusing that they changed some names (e.g. Hogwarts is Poudlard). Good luck 😊

    1. Thank you so much! Oh yeah, I saw that too when I read the sample of the first HP book in French and I had to look up what Poudlard meant lol. Thank you! Good luck to you too with the reading and learning French!! πŸ˜„

  10. You are crazy enough, I can’t see next year is easy for me. Your next year resolution should be not to leave books unfinished. I did not see you read any fantasy, thriller and horror. You should read more genres too. Read in other languages and try telling us what you liked in English. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
I am interested in watching a book to movie adaptations, my next year will be depended on your reviews. Give good reviews. You should talk more often to me. 😁😁 that’s socializing. πŸ₯°πŸ₯°

    1. I’ve never read anything horror (only half of it and then it got really boring lol) πŸ˜‚ but I’ve read a little bit of fantasy and thriller before. Just a little bit lol. Yeah, that’s my plan. I’ll reread the books I’ve already read in French and review them in English. Yess! You should defo watch more adaptations. They’re so cool, aren’t they? 😍 Yeah, I need to do some more socializing then. πŸ˜‚

      1. Read horror that’s not webtoon and a book written by a human being not an alien. I haven’t seen you read any at all. I will wait for your reviews. I will wait for your reviews on movies too so that I don’t watch a movie that smells like garbage and looks like stink fly.
More more socializing, please. I will miss you once your college starts. πŸ˜ŠβœŒπŸ’•πŸ’•

  11. These are great goals for the new year, Nikita! I don’t read a lot of fantasy books, either, but there are some I’ve been interested in giving a try. How cool that you’ll be trying to learn french & guitar. πŸ™‚ I feel the same way about Instagram, I don’t have time or motivation for it!

  12. My plans for 2020 is to open a touristic activities in my village in Croatia…although that probably wont be realized before 2021… in the meantime, blogging, trying new sports and learning lots of new things… When it comes to books…I have already like 50-60 books on my shelf that are waiting for me to pick them up and read.

  13. Good luck with all of those, Nikita! Haha, I also have a guitar which has been gathering dust for YEARS… I’m not even kidding myself anymore that I will ever pick it up…
And you reminded me I was supposed to pick up some simple book in Spanish last year! I should get back to duolingo first though…

    1. Thank you, hun! I always end up forgetting about it and then I beat myself up over not learning to play it. It’s so awful 😭🀣. Duolingo keeps reminding me to do those exercises and I procrastinate and turn off the notifications??? 😭 Hope you pick up some Spanish books soon tho and achieve all of your goals and plans for this year! ❀ Happy new year! 🎊

  14. Reading in French is an ambitious goal! I have looked for books in other languages, but it is so hard for me to find something interesting, affordable, and at my reading comprehension level. Best of luck with all your goals!!

    1. Thank you, Jana ❀ I agree with you! I also find it difficult to find something interesting and affordable while looking for books in a foreign language. But I learn French at school and they have a library where I can find books at my comprehension level. Also, I’ve decided to read the books I’ve already read (and enjoyed) in English so that I don’t get bored. Thank you. Hope you find some interesting books in other languages. ❀
