Hey guys, it’s over. There are only a few days left in 2019 and then it will already be 2020? Why so soon? Am I the only one who’s feeling left behind? Why can’t we go back a few years and have fun? I always hate when numbers change. 2019 was kinda good, kinda bad. But, let’s bury the negatives and focus on the positives!
BOOKISH
In the year 2019, I’ve read 60 books till now, according to Goodreads. It includes about three or four DNFs – I don’t talk about DNF’s usually, so I don’t add them to my ‘Read’ shelf on Goodreads anymore. I really enjoyed most of these books. But I did not really love them as much as I’d love to! I did read an amazing book that’s now become my all-time favorite, though!
I reread a few books this year, and rereading is something I would like to do in the future too, especially the books that I haven’t reviewed yet, and the books I think I should reread just because they’re amazing.
Anyway, let’s talk about my reading stats! I have read 20,319 pages across 60 books, according to Goodreads. The number is probably higher or lower because I’ve put quite a few books down this year without finishing and I’ll probably read them later.
The shortest book that I read was Dear Ijeawele, or A Feminist Manifesto in Fifteen Suggestions by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie – it has 63 pages, and the longest book that I read was After by Anna Todd, which has 582 pages.
Twilight by Stephenie Meyer is the most popular book that I read, and the least popular book is Comeback: A K-pop Novel by Lyn Ashwood (guys? You have to read this book if you love K-pop! Just pick it up! It shouldn’t be the least popular book, should it be? It’s REALLY underrated.)
I even tried to read ARCs but they don’t really work for me –and I always wind up in an endless reading slump whenever I read a book when I don’t want to read it and ARCs only add to the pressure–and I think I would only request one if I’m really sure I want to read it. However, I did enjoy the one’s I’ve read till now.
My Favorite Books Of This Year:
I enjoyed Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston and loved it. It’s my favorite book and I’d love to read it again in 2020.
I also enjoyed my reread of Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli, and if you all don’t know, it’s my another of my favorite book of all time.
I also enjoyed The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo, which was the first poetry book I’d read, and I loved The Prince and the Dressmaker by Jen Wang, which is the only graphic novel that ended up on my favorites list this year. Radio Silence by Alice Oseman has also been one of the best books that I’ve read this year, and one I totally recommend to y’all.
My favorite series of this year:
I enjoyed the Truly Devious series that I read this year and I’m very impatient to read the third book. It’s my favorite series for this year, I guess. I have almost forgotten what happens in the books now though, and it’s really bad! I’ll need to revise it lmao.
Books that disappointed me:
A book that truly disappointed me was Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid. I really wanted to love it, but I couldn’t. I even tried the audiobook, but it didn’t work for me.
Another book that disappointed me was The Love and Lies of Rukhsana Ali by Sabina Khan. I wanted to love this book, and I would have, but I didn’t like the writing and the descriptions of chai.
I really think y’all should read this book though. I think you could like them, even if I didn’t.
Books I’ll Probably Read Next Year
There’s one book that was released this year and I truly want to read it next year, and that is With the Fire on High by Elizabeth Acevedo.
BLOGGING
I only used to read books a year ago, and I never really thought it would be amazing to talk about them. In fact, my first blog post was about a movie I had watched and not about a book, which is funny, but alright. Lately, I have started writing about some more adaptations I watch and enjoy.
I had no idea what I was doing initially when I had started writing on my blog, but now, I think I kind of know what I want from my blog? I started posting regularly in the month of August and started communicating with other bloggers, and I’m really satisfied with my blog’s growth.
I hope my blog is able to thrive a little more in the coming year and I really hope I’m able to follow some more amazing blogs in the future too!
I do not have any goals other than I want to write as much as I can, because it’s something I’ve been enjoying.
MOVIES AND TV SERIES
I watched quite a few movies and tried to follow a few Netflix series this year. I mostly watched the book to movie adaptations because I totally adore them and I kinda trust them lol. So, my favorite movies that I watched this year are all based on books. Here’s a list of my faves of this year:
To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before
Five Feet Apart
The End of the Fucking World
Love, Simon
There’s so many that I need to watch and talk about. I really hope I’m able to watch them in 2020, and I hope they release them in India soon.
MUSIC
I listened to a lot of amazing songs this year across all genres. I’m currently listening to Adore You by Harry Styles, Ocean by Seafret, and Laughing on the Outside by Bernadette Carroll (thanks to The End of the F×××ing World!)
Here are my Top Songs of 2019:
So this is my 2019 in review. What did you guys read this year? What movies did you watch? Do you have plans for the next year? Lets talk about them in the comments below.
Edit: (Jan 1 2020) I actually managed to read 62 books in 2019, without reading much in the last month. Here’s a Screenshot:
Also, now, the shortest book I’ve read is a short story that I counted toward the goal, and it is The Gift of the Magi by O Henry.
Excellent post, Nikita! It’s looks like you’ve had a great year and I wish you all the best for 2020. I also can hardly believe it will be 2020 already lol.

Looks like some great stats! And I love that you’re focusing on the positive! I don’t talk much about books I DNF either. I’d much rather talk about the books I’m loving or at least enjoying.

Thanks, Ali! I totally agree. I only talk about the DNFs when I have something significant to say. I usually only like talking about the books I enjoy.
