Humor Me by Marvin W.
My Rating: πππππ
Description
Life isn’t always sunshine and daisies, scholarship student Charlie Summers knows that very well. Since her mother passed away and her father fled his responsibilities, everyday became a trial for the high schooler.
But Charlie is determined to do everything to protect her brother, be it lying to the authorities and neighbours, imitating her father’s signature, or letting everyone think she’s a boy.
No matter if her schoolmates think she’s a weirdo with no friends, she has only one goal in mind : reaching graduation and majority without trouble !
My Thoughts
I have no idea what had gotten into me when, a few nights ago, I decided to download the Webtoon app for the second time –I had uninstalled it before because it was “interfering” with my reading time (now it totally counts as reading because I want it to count!)– and pulled up a list of some popular webtoons and their summaries. I added all of them to my list of to-be-read (not on Goodreads– I barely use Goodreads now). My insomnia wasn’t letting me sleep on Sunday, so I thought it would be better if I just read some webtoon. And I started reading this one after one am — I was hooked… and I had a class in the morning. You all know how it ends.Humor Me is a story of a girl named Charlie who lives with her three (soon to be four) year old brother, Lucien, and looks after him. She is a scholarship student at a school and works her ass off the whole day — her mother is not alive and her father does not live with them and barely ever visits them. One day, she sees a guy from her school, James, who also happens to be a model, getting harassed by some journalists. Charlie saves the day but James believes that she’s another of his fans. Except, he thinks she’s a fanboy and not a fangirl, just like the whole school believes she’s a boy and not a girl.I found the concept pretty fun and intriguing. When I’d read the description of this webtoon, I knew I was gonna check it out, but I had never thought I would enjoy it so much that I’d end up reading all of the episodes in a few hours even though I had to wake up on time to get ready for my classes the next day. This webtoon is so adorable and heart-warming. The story is beautiful and is told beautifully. The art is super cute — it’s black and white, and very gorgeous. The characters are so real, and I love all of them, including James, even enough he’s supposed to behave like a jerk till now.
As I already mentioned, I love the plot and the art, but I love the characters the most. My favorite character in the webtoon is Charlie — well, she’s the main character as y’all already figured. But I love her because she’s such a strong protagonist. She’s so responsible and stands up for what’s right and always takes care of her younger brother, even reads him bedtime stories. She is SO confident and knows what she’s doing. She never lets anything get to her. I really wish I had her confidence and courage. She’s one of my favorite female protagonists.
My next favorite is Lucian — he’s Charlie’s four-year-old brother, and he is so sassy and witty and adorable and makes you laugh. And guess what, he has the vocabulary of a twenty-five-year-old and quotes Hamlet. He is just so cute I want to hug him!I love reading about siblings that have a huge age difference because they’re always cute. I loved them so much I can write a big essay about them. πI also loved other characters — Louis and James are really good too! James is so pompous and narcissistic — I mean, he assumes that Charlie is stalking him and is a fanboy? –and I loved Charlie and Louis’ remarks to him. They were so hilarious and spot-on and had me roaring with laughter. I really want to know more about Louis (the episodes are still coming out and I need to know what happens next!).I really adored the webtoon, so much so that I dreamed about it. I also wanted to restart reading some other webtoons on my list, but I just couldn’t…I was afraid they wouldn’t live up to my expectations.Anyways, I’m hooked to this one, and I really hope to find some more webtoons that I enjoy. If you haven’t read it yet, you should do it now!
So, do you guys read webtoons? Recommend me your favorites! Have you read Humor Me? What did you think about it?
Iβve never had the pleasure of reading webtoons but this sounds good! Playing with the genders of the characters is interesting β it reminds me of Twelfth Night. Will have to check it out!

I donβt have the Webtoon app, but I really want to get it! I really want to read Lore of Olympus, and Iβm definitely going to read this one too. The only webtoon Iβve read before was Heartstopper on Tapas (before it came out in print) and I loved it! (I still do, hahaha especially as the story is further along online than it is in print at the moment)

Definitely giving this one a read. I havenβt read any web toons in a really long time and even then I think I might have only read one or two. I should probably check them out more often!

I hadn’t really read any before this one — I had started reading them but I always ended up being bored because there were way too many episodes. But I really, really enjoyed this one! I really hope you enjoy them, especially this one lol.

Great review and super cute looking book. I’ve viewed this before and been afraid to try for it–seems they hang up and I can’t receive them (big files?). I’d try it if I thought it’d work tho.

Oh, Humor Me is such a great webtoon! It really lives up to its name; Charlie just exudes this whimsy, careful aura. Every character is a joy and they have such charming interactions. I’m glad I found your review of it.
Hmm… for webtoon recommendations, I’d suggest My New Friend is a Cat. Funny enough, it also has a sibling pair that are separated by ten years. If you read it, I’d love to hear what you think of it!

I totally agree with you! That’s exactly why I fell in love with it so much. And thank you so much for the recommendation — I just looked up the one you mentioned, and honestly, the art is so cute and I might have to read it right now. π
