The Decade Tag

When the 2010s had begun, I was probably in eighth grade, busy watching cartoons and singing jingles and dreaming about becoming a filmmaker. I can’t believe so much has changed in the last 10 years, so today, I’m gonna talk about the decade that just ended, or rather, my favorite books and movies and music of the past decade. I was tagged in this by JesusLuvsAll and they asked these three questions.

What were your favorite books of this decade?

Y’all know how much I love books, and I’ve read so many of them in this decade–I fell in love with them in the second half of the 2010s– and want to read many, many more. It feels strange to know that I’ve read more than a hundred books in this decade. So, here I’m gonna talk about my favorite books of the 2010s.

The Fault In Our Stars

Well, this book made me a reader and was one of my first favorites. I loved it when I’d read it, so much so that I didn’t even tell my friends about it because I was afraid they’d judge the book and it won’t have the same effect on them. I still love it a lot!

Twilight

I had watched the movies before reading the books, and when I finally read the series…I can’t describe how fun it was. I’ve never read a series that made me want to read, read and read. It was so entertaining, even though it was problematic.

Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda

I was perusing the titles in the YA section of a bookstore one day (I rarely visited one), two years ago, when my eyes landed on a skanky red cover (I hate the color red…it’s just awful) and I was like, okay, the name of this book is kinda nice, so I think I’d pick it up, and that’s what I did. I didn’t know much about the book, and for months I was like, I just wasted my money on this book because I’m not gonna read it, like, ever. And then, one night, I picked it up on a whim. I didn’t mean to start reading it and only stopping after I finished it. I totally didn’t. But I ended up staying up till 7 o clock in the morning and finishing the whole thing. It became my favorite soon after, and I kept reading and rereading it. It made me want to read more books and fall in love with them!

Red, White & Royal Blue

It was my favorite of 2019, and I guess my all-time fave until I find some other book that’s even better. I really, really love it. I didn’t know if I was gonna love a romance with political stuff, and I did think a lot before getting my own copy of it. But it’s so amazing and that’s why it’s hyped. The author really knocked it out of the park with this book, and my expectations for their next book that comes out a year later are already super high.

Girl Made of Stars

I do not talk much about this book, but I really, really loved it! It’s one of my all-time favorites and I am so glad it exists. I’m kind of slowly becoming a fan of Ashley Herring Blake because another book of hers that I just finished made me cry a lot and it was so gorgeous. Anyway, this book is so beautiful and so powerful and that’s why I adore it!

What were your favorite songs in the past decade?

This is a very difficult question to answer. I’ve loved so many songs in the past decade that it’s difficult to even think about ’em all. However, there are a few that I still remember and I still enjoy it!

All I Want by Kodaline

Kahin Toh from Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Naa

Night Changes by One Direction

My Heart Will Go On by Celine Dion

Love You To Want Me by Lobo

Girl Crush (Cover) by Harry Styles

What are your favorite movies from the past decade?

I do not really watch a lot of movies but I did watch quite a few movies last year. I’m also gonna talk about a few TV shows that I loved in this decade. So, here are the shows and movies that I loved!

Impractical Jokers

One Tree Hill

To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before

Pink

It’s an Indian film in Hindi with a very important message. It’s about three girls who attack the nephew of a powerful politician because he tries to rape one of them. But they’re wrongly accused of asking for money in exchange for sex, and then not following through with their promise. This movie was so important and so powerful. I don’t think there’s ever been a movie this powerful in Bollywood (the Hindi film industry) that’s been this successful. I really, really loved it.

Dear Zindagi

This is another Bollywood movie that I watched and loved. It’s about a girl named Kaira, who’s had a recent heartbreak after the man she loves gets engaged and she starts therapy to deal with all of her emotions. I loved this movie because 1) I love the actress –she’s really adorable and 2) I hadn’t seen a Bollywood movie that talks about therapy, and even though my experience with therapy was nothing like Kaira’s–her therapist was Shah Rukh Khan, and mine wasn’t–I still loved it! I think it’s important to end the stigma around mental health and I think this movie did a decent job.

Titanic

So, that’s all, guys! I am a bit busy, so I’m not tagging anyone in this, but I would love to know your answers to the same three questions! Of course, if you wanna do this tag, I encourage you to answer it!

  1. The fault in our stars must be the best movie of all time!! I’ve heard about it while growing up when I wasn’t a big reader. I haven’t read it yet though. ‘My heart will go on’ is an emotional song, who doesn’t like it? Titanic is the best of all time!! Nothing can beat it.
